NLGH 2018-19 Coaches
U8 Maroon: Jon Dumonski  (  CHC  )
 Jon is USA Hockey Level 3 certified and has been coaching with the Northern Lights at the U8 and Mini Lights levels since 2015. Prior to that, he spent two seasons assisting Paul Faulkner with the Simsbury Youth hockey “Hockey Stars” program. 
 Jon played hockey for Central Connecticut State University in the National Collegiate Hockey Association. He was an assistant captain, regional All Star, and led CCSU in scoring from the defensive position in the 2002-2003 season.
 
U8 Silver: Allan Boothroyd  (  CHC  )
 Allan grew up playing hockey in Enfield, with the Springfield Jr. Pics in the Metro Boston Hockey League. He went on to play 3 years of varsity hockey with E.O. Smith High School. Allan was named captain as a junior and named to the NHC all conference team for 2 years. E.O Smith won back to back conference championships and went on to state playoff quarterfinals 3 years in a row.  After high school he joined the Marine Corps and served 8 years in the infantry working up to the rank of Sergeant. With Allan's hockey knowledge and military experience he will be a great asset to the Northern Light organization.

U9 Silver: David Peltz  ( CGHL and CHC )
 Dave brings a wealth of hockey knowledge and experience to the Northern Lights Girls Hockey Program. Dave is a Level 4 coach (USA Hockey) and has 18 years coaching experience behind the bench at both the Junior and Tier 1 youth hockey levels. Dave has had 3 Junior Hockey National appearances with several Regional and State championships. Dave has coached Connecticut and Massachusetts area teams successfully earning him a loyal following among hockey families who has now seen numerous players matriculate to Professional, Division 1 and Division 3 college hockey programs and prep school. Dave lives in Simsbury CT, with his wife and two children.

U10 Silver: Greg Filippetti  ( CGHL Divs I and CHC  )
  Greg will be entering his third season with the Lights.  After initially playing a big part in the success of Mini Lights and U8s in his first season with the program, Greg led our U10 Maroon team to a second place finish in CGHL Division II this past season.  He has been a positive role model for all the girls and is looking forward to working with the U10s again this coming season.
-Graduate of Bentley University (Waltham, MA).

U12 Navy: Matt Falconer  ( CGHL DIVISION II and CHC )
Matt grew up playing hockey in upstate New York and Massachusetts and is entering his third year coaching with the Northern Lights. In 2017-18, he served as an assistant coach with the U10 Maroon team, helping them finish second overall in CGHL Division 2. Matt will earn his level 3 coaching certification later this year and he has also helped coach girls lacrosse for the past two years.
Matt knows first-hand how competitive hockey develops confidence and builds character. As a father of three girls, he is personally invested in helping female athletes succeed both on and off the ice.
 
U12 Maroon: Eric Fanelli  ( CGHL DIVISION I and CHC TIER II )
 Eric is entering his sixth season with the Lights coaching the foundation program, U8 and u10 travel teams.  He has coached the Wethersfield High School hockey team for the last 22 seasons.  In that time he has been behind the bench for over 400 games as an assistant coach. At Wethersfield he has been in charge of the goalies and the defense.  Eric has coached dozens of all conference players and All State players. Helping some of them move onto junior and college hockey. 
 
U12 Silver: Sarah Hanna  (  NEGHL and CHC Tier I  )
 Sarah is USA Hockey Level 4 certified and has been coaching girls ice hockey with the Northern Lights at the U10 level since 2010.  Prior to that, she coached teams at the U12 and U14 levels since 1999.  From 2001-2010, seven of those teams coached qualified for USA Hockey Tier I National Tournaments, and three teams earned bronze medals.
   
Sarah played ice hockey and soccer at Sacred Heart University.  She captained the ice hockey team in her junior and senior seasons, and the soccer team in her senior season.  In ice hockey, she was a Division III All-American in her junior season and led the team in her senior season to a second place finish at the Division III ECAC championship. 
 Following college, Sarah played for Team Connecticut, a competitive women's ice hockey team composed of women who have played collegiate hockey at the Division I and Division III levels.  Since, 2001, this team has attended 13 USA Hockey National Championships, earning multiple first, second and third place finishes.
 
U13 Sliver Co-Head Coaches: Allison McCauliffe and Jim McCormick ( CGHL DIV. I )
  Allison is a Level 4 certified coach entering her thrid year of coaching with the Northern Lights program, having served as an head coach on the U12 Maroon team last season.  She has served as either head coach or assistant coach over the last four seasons .
  Allison graduated from and played Division III college hockey in the ECAC Conference at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's varsity hockey team .  She is a life long hockey enthusiast and rink rat who has been on the ice since the age of 4. 
  Allison is very excited to be working with the Northern Lights organization to promote girls hockey and share her knowledge and love of the game with her teams.

 

   Jim McCormick has been coaching hockey for more than 11 years. Jim's teams have won the CT state tournament, the Avon Canton Farmington Youth Hockey Association Thanksgiving Tournament and the Pot of Gold Tournament in Vermont. Jim led his Tier 2 Pee Wee A team to a 45-8-5 record which brought them to  the Regional Tournament in Maine with the best teams from ME, CT, VT and NH.  Jim grew up playing youth hockey in West Hartford and Avon and played at Avon Old Farms under Coach John Gardner.  When he's not coaching hockey he likes to vacation in VA with his son Ryan and daughter Mimi. 

 
U14 Maroon TIER II: Mike Downs  and Stephen Woods 

Mike is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach with 15 years of coaching experience.  He grew up playing hockey from the youth level through high school in Enfield.  There he was part of winning a state championship in the late 80’s. 

 

Mike coached with Simsbury Youth Hockey from 2003 – 2012 winning numerous tournaments and making several runs at state tournaments. 

 

He joined the Northern Lights in 2009 with learn to skate and coached the U13 Silver team in the 2017-2018 season.  With the Lights his team have won several tournaments including a CHC Tier II Regionals, Div II CGHL Champions and the Merrimack Holiday Tournament this past year.

 

Mike continues to pass along his love of the game to his teams and players.  He is focused on player development both physically and mentally. 

Outside of the rink he has coached youth baseball, softball and Lacrosse in Granby.  He has also been known to still lace them up at his first rink in Enfield and at ISCC in adult leagues.  

 

Stephen is a level 4 certified coach, and has been coaching and assistant coaching various teams at all levels for more than 10 years, including U10, U12 and U13 teams for the last 5 years. Stephen has coached both boys and girls teams at different organizations, most recently assistant coaching the NLGH U13 Silver team. Stephen has coached both boys and girls teams to multiple state titles, including CHC and CGHL state championship titles.

 

Stephen brings a high energy and a strong passion for the sport of hockey. He expects a great deal from his players and team as a whole, while ensuring the players are not only developing their hockey skills, but also their passion for the sport.

 

 

 

U14 Silver TIER I: Kelly Keane 
 Kelly is a USA Hockey Level 4 Certified Coach with a strong passion for the game who has been the Head Coach for the Lights U-16 team for two seasons. This past season was the Head Coach for Lights U-14 team. She has been coaching for the past 7 years for various age groups throughout New York and New England, leading teams to both State titles and Regional tournaments and helping players continue their education and playing careers at area prep schools. She has worked numerous camps over the years from Can-Am in Lake Placid to the Learn-to-Play programs in Enfield and Elmsford as well as Jeff Serowik’s Pro Ambitions Battle Camp in Rye, NY.
 Kelly played her youth and high school hockey in the Northern Ct/Western Mass region and was able to continue her career at the collegiate level at Manhattanville College playing for the Valiants from 2009-2013. She was a member of the 2011 ECAC East Championship winning team, was a three time ECAC East All-Academic Team member, and an Assistant Captain her senior season. 
Kayla Collins
  Kayla is entering her third year coaching the Lights, previously coaching the U14 team. Last summer she worked at the Pride Hockey Elite Camp in West Springfield, MA.
  Kayla played her youth career in the Northern Connecticut/Western Mass region playing for the Springfield Jr Pics. She then continued her career by playing for Northfield Mount Hermon a prep school located in Northfield, Ma. From there she continued at Nichols College, in Dudley, Ma from 2010 to 2014, where she was named ECAC East All-Academic Team member her sophomore, junior, and senior year.
 
High School Split Season : Nicole Cournoyer
 Nicole has been actively coaching hockey for the past 6 seasons.  She is USA hockey Level 3 certified as well as having her CT Coaching Certification.  This year she Head Coach with the NLGH U16/19 H.S. team.  Last year she was the head coach of the NLGH Tier I U12 team and prior to that she assisted with that team for 4 seasons.  She is also the Simsbury High School Girls ice hockey varsity assistant coach. Prior to working with the varsity program she was involved as the JV head coach for the 2015-2016 season and as the assistant JV coach for 3 seasons prior.  Nicole has also helped with both adult and youth clinics at West Hartford’s Veterans rink.
 As an adult, Nicole became involved with some competitive women’s ice hockey teams in the area.  She participated in several tournaments.  Currently, she still enjoys playing pick up hockey in men’s pickup games or with the Simsbury Ducks women’s team. 
 Other than hockey, Nicole has been involved with Simsbury High School sports programs.  She has been a part of the coaching staff there with the varsity softball team and currently as the assistant girls golf coach.  Away from the bench she spends her free time on the golf course, cycling or running.  She is continually training for her next race and has completed 2 marathons, several half marathons and a century cycling ride.

U16 Silver: Dan Giordano ( Director, Player Development )

 After playing for 15 years at the Tier 1 level, Dan has coached and developed players at all levels from Mites through Juniors over the last 21 years.

 Dan was the co-founder and General Manager of the Connecticut Lazers AAA Tier 1 hockey program from 2001 through 2007 which offered teams from the Squirt Major level up through Juniors in the Empire Junior Hockey League, Metropolitan Boston Hockey League, and New England Elite Hockey League.
