NLGH 2019-20 Coaches

U8 Maroon: Lauren Sanderson  (CHC)

 Lauren grew up in Avon, CT playing for Avon Girls Hockey, which served as the foundation for NLGH.  Lauren also played for Kingswood-Oxford School in high school.   Lauren played at Hamilton College from 2006-2008 before transferring to St. Olaf College for 2008-2010 seasons.

-Attended Tier 1 USA Hockey Nationals in 2004 and 2006, placing 3rd in 2006.

-At Hamilton College led the team in points, goals, assists, and game winning goals as a freshman. Led all NESCAC rookies with the most points per game. Led the entire NESCAC in goals in conference play as a freshman. Was picked as the NESCAC player of the week twice.  As a sophomore, led Hamilton in points and goals.

-At St. Olaf College led the team in assists during junior year as well as total points in conference play.   Senior year led St. Olaf in points and goals in conference play. Led the MIAC in game winning goals in conference play as a senior and ranked 4th for goal scoring in conference play. Was selected to the All-MIAC team in 2009 and 2010. 

Lauren has continued her passion for hockey with the Mini Lights during the 2018-19 season.  Lauren, her husband and three daughters live in Suffield.

 

U8 Silver: Jon Dumonski  (CHC)

 Jon is USA Hockey Level 3 certified and has been coaching with the Northern Lights at the U8 and Mini Lights levels since 2015. Prior to that, he spent two seasons assisting Paul Faulkner with the Simsbury Youth hockey “Hockey Stars” program. 

 Jon played hockey at Central Connecticut State University and was an assistant captain.

 

 

U10 Maroon: Allan Boothroyd  ( CGHL and CHC )
 Allan grew up playing hockey in Enfield, with the Springfield Jr. Pics in the Metro Boston Hockey League. He went on to play 3 years of varsity hockey with E.O. Smith High School. Allan was named captain as a junior and named to the NHC all conference team for 2 years. E.O Smith won back to back conference championships and went on to state playoff quarterfinals 3 years in a row.  After high school he joined the Marine Corps and served 8 years in the infantry working up to the rank of Sergeant. With Allan's hockey knowledge and military experience he will be a great asset to the Northern Light organization.

U10 Silver: David Peltz  ( CGHL, NEGHL and CHC )

 Dave brings a wealth of hockey knowledge and experience to the Northern Lights Girls Hockey Program. Dave is a Level 4 coach (USA Hockey) and has 19 years coaching experience behind the bench at both the Junior and Tier 1 youth hockey levels. Dave has had 3 Junior Hockey National appearances with several Regional and State championships. Dave has coached Connecticut and Massachusetts area teams successfully earning him a loyal following among hockey families who has now seen numerous players matriculate to Professional, Division 1 and Division 3 college hockey programs and prep school. Dave lives in Simsbury CT, with his wife and two children.

U11 Silver: Greg Filippetti and Jim Walsh ( CGHL Divs I and CHC  )
  Greg will be entering his third season with the Lights.  After initially playing a big part in the success of Mini Lights and U8s in his first season with the program, Greg led our U10 Maroon team to a second place finish in CGHL Division II this past season.  He has been a positive role model for all the girls and is looking forward to working with the U10s again this coming season.
-Graduate of Bentley University (Waltham, MA). 
-USA hockey certified level 2 coach.

U12 Maroon: Matt Falconer  ( CGHL DIVISION II and CHC )

Matt grew up playing hockey in upstate New York and Massachusetts and is entering his fourth year coaching with the Northern Lights. In 2018-19, he served as head coach with the U12 team,  In 2017-18, he served as an assistant coach with the U10 Maroon team, helping them finish second overall in CGHL Division 2.
Matt has a level 3 coaching certification and he has also helped coach girls lacrosse for the past two years.
Matt knows first-hand how competitive hockey develops confidence and builds character. As a father of three girls, he is personally invested in helping female athletes succeed both on and off the ice.

 

 

U12 Silver: Eric Fanelli  ( NEGHL and CHC TIER I )
 Eric is a level 3 certified coach entering his seventh season with the Lights coaching the foundation program, U8, U10, and U12 travel teams.  He has coached the Wethersfield High School hockey team for the last 23 seasons.  In that time he has been behind the bench for over 500 games as an assistant coach. At Wethersfield he has been in charge of the goalies and the defense.  Eric has coached dozens of all conference players and All State players. Helping some of them move onto junior and college hockey. 

 

 

U14 Tier II: Frank Usseglio and Sarah Hanna  (  NEGHL and CHC Tier II  )

Coach Frank Usseglio is a 1983 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross.   Coach Usseglio grew up playing hockey in Arlington, Massachusetts.  He began his collegiate ice hockey career in the 1980-81 season, as the starting goaltender for the Crusaders against then No. 3 ranked Boston College.  After completing a successful college hockey career at Holy Cross, obtaining his law degree from Union University, and serving as an active duty commissioned officer in the United States Navy, Coach Usseglio began his ice hockey coaching career with the Connecticut Northern Lights 16 years ago, where has served as a Division Director, and head coach at every level between 10U and 19U, both at Tier I and Tier II levels.  In addition to coaching with the Connecticut Northern Lights. Coach Usseglio served as a boys’ hockey head coach for many years first with the Central Connecticut Capitals (Tier II), and more recently with the Connecticut Chiefs (Tier I).  For the past 7 years, Coach Usseglio has been the Head Coach of the East Catholic/Glastonbury/South Windsor girls varsity ice hockey team, where his teams have won back to back SCC Conference Championships, and a Connecticut State Championship in 2015.  He was named Coach of the Year by the Southern Connecticut Conference in 2015, and has been the recipient of the Connecticut National Ice Hockey Officials, “Vincent J. Reilly Sportsmanship Award”.  Coach Usseglio has been selected in the past to coach at the USA Hockey New England District Girls’ Development Camp, he was the founder of the Connecticut Summer Lights girls’ hockey program, and he has recently been selected by Hockey Night in Boston to coach in its upcoming girls’ summer festival in Massachusetts.  Coach Usseglio is a retired Navy Captain, works as a personal injury attorney, and lives in Wethersfield with his wife Janet.

 Sarah is USA Hockey Level 4 certified and has been coaching girls ice hockey with the Northern Lights at the U10 level since 2010.  Prior to that, she coached teams at the U12 and U14 levels since 1999.  Seven of those teams coached qualified for USA Hockey Tier I National Tournaments, and three teams earned bronze medals.
   
Sarah played ice hockey and soccer at Sacred Heart University.  She captained the ice hockey team in her junior and senior seasons, and the soccer team in her senior season.  In ice hockey, she was a Division III All-American in her junior season and led the team in her senior season to a second place finish at the Division III ECAC championship. 

 Following college, Sarah played for Team Connecticut, a competitive women's ice hockey team composed of women who have played collegiate hockey at the Division I and Division III levels.  Since, 2001, this team has attended 13 USA Hockey National Championships, earning multiple first, second and third place finishes.

 

 

U14 Tier I : Kelly Keane and Kayla Collins (  NEGHL and CHC Tier I  )
 Kelly is a USA Hockey Level 4 Certified Coach with a strong passion for the game who has been the Head Coach for the Lights U-16 team for two seasons. This past season was the Head Coach for Lights U-14 team. She has been coaching for the past 7 years for various age groups throughout New York and New England, leading teams to both State titles and Regional tournaments and helping players continue their education and playing careers at area prep schools. She has worked numerous camps over the years from Can-Am in Lake Placid to the Learn-to-Play programs in Enfield and Elmsford as well as Jeff Serowik’s Pro Ambitions Battle Camp in Rye, NY.
 Kelly played her youth and high school hockey in the Northern Ct/Western Mass region and was able to continue her career at the collegiate level at Manhattanville College playing for the Valiants from 2009-2013. She was a member of the 2011 ECAC East Championship winning team, was a three time ECAC East All-Academic Team member, and an Assistant Captain her senior season. 
Kayla Collins
  Kayla is entering her Fourth year coaching the Lights, previously coaching the U14 team. Last summer she worked at the Pride Hockey Elite Camp in West Springfield, MA.
  Kayla played her youth career in the Northern Connecticut/Western Mass region playing for the Springfield Jr Pics. She then continued her career by playing for Northfield Mount Hermon a prep school located in Northfield, Ma. From there she continued at Nichols College, in Dudley, Ma from 2010 to 2014, where she was named ECAC East All-Academic Team member her sophomore, junior, and senior year.

 

CJ Kenney

 CJ is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach who has been coaching girls hockey in Connecticut at the prep school, junior, and youth levels since 2013. She will be entering her second year with the Lights after leading the U19 Silver team to a state championship and to the regional tournament in her first season. She places a primary focus on developing complete athletes and helping them prepare to play hockey in college. She has helped dozens of players advance to playing in the NCAA and ACHA and is passionate about creating a positive and developmental environment for her players. 
 
 CJ played her college career at UMass Amherst and was an assistant captain in her senior season.  She also played tier 1 hockey in Massachusetts for Charles River throughout youth/high school.
