U8 Maroon: Jon Dumonski
Jon is USA Hockey Level 3 certified and has been coaching with the Northern Lights at the U8 and Mini Lights levels since 2015. Prior to that, he spent two seasons assisting Paul Faulkner with the Simsbury Youth hockey “Hockey Stars” program.
Jon played hockey for Central Connecticut State University in the National Collegiate Hockey Association. He was an assistant captain, regional All Star, and led CCSU in scoring from the defensive position in the 2002-2003 season.
U8 Silver: David Peltz
Dave brings a wealth of hockey knowledge and experience to the Northern Lights Girls Hockey Program. Dave is a Level 4 coach (USA Hockey) and has 17 years coaching experience behind the bench at both the Junior and Tier 1 youth hockey levels. Dave has had 3 Junior Hockey National appearances with several Regional and State championships. Dave has coached Connecticut and Massachusetts area teams successfully earning him a loyal following among hockey families who has now seen numerous players matriculate to Professional, Division 1 and Division 3 college hockey programs and prep school. Dave lives in Simsbury CT, with his wife and two children.

U10 Maroon: Gregory Fillippetti
Greg will be entering his third season with the Lights. He has been a big part of the Mini Lights and U8 success over the last two seasons. He has been a positive role model for all the girls and is looking forward to working with the U10 team this coming season.

U10 Silver: Eric Fanelli
Eric is entering his fifth season with the Lights coaching the foundation program and the U8 travel team. He has coached the Wethersfield High School hockey team for the last 20 seasons. In that time he has been behind the bench for over 400 games as an assistant coach. At Wethersfield he has been in charge of the goalies and the defense. Eric has coached dozens of all conference players and All State players. Helping some of them move onto junior and college hockey.
U12 Maroon: Allison McCauliffe and Jim McCormick
Allison is a Level 3 certified coach entering her second year of coaching with the Northern Lights program, having served as an assistant coach on the U12 Maroon team last season. She has served as either head coach or assistant coach over the last three seasons .
Allison graduated from and played Division III college hockey in the ECAC Conference at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's varsity hockey team . She is a life long hockey enthusiast and rink rat who has been on the ice since the age of 4.
Allison is very excited to be working with the Northern Lights organization to promote girls hockey and share her knowledge and love of the game with her teams.
Jim McCormick has been coaching youth hockey for more than 10 years.
Jim's teams have won the CT state tournament, the Avon Canton Farmington Youth Hockey Association Thanksgiving Tournament and the Pot of Gold Tournament in Vermont. Jim led his Tier 2 Pee Wee A team to a 45-8-5 record which brought them to the Regional Tournament in Maine with the best teams from ME, CT, VT and NH. Jim grew up playing youth hockey in West Hartford and Avon and played at Avon Old Farms under Coach John Gardner. When he's not coaching hockey he likes to vacation in VA with his son Ryan and daughter Mimi.
U12 Silver: Sarah Hanna
Sarah is USA Hockey Level 4 certified and has been coaching girls ice hockey with the Northern Lights at the U10 level since 2010. Prior to that, she coached teams at the U12 and U14 levels since 1999. From 2001-2010, seven of those teams coached qualified for USA Hockey Tier I National Tournaments, and three teams earned bronze medals.
Sarah played ice hockey and soccer at Sacred Heart University. She captained the ice hockey team in her junior and senior seasons, and the soccer team in her senior season. In ice hockey, she was a Division III All-American in her junior season and led the team in her senior season to a second place finish at the Division III ECAC championship.
Following college, Sarah played for Team Connecticut, a competitive women's ice hockey team composed of women who have played collegiate hockey at the Division I and Division III levels. Since, 2001, this team has attended 13 USA Hockey National Championships, earning multiple first, second and third place finishes.
U14 Maroon: Tom Humphreys and David Hanna
U13 Silver: Glenn Pinckney, Mike Downs and Stephen Woods
The Connecticut Northern Lights are proud to announce Glenn Pinckney to our u14 maroon coaching staff. Glenn has played a huge role in developing players in the Farmington Valley starting in 1994 coaching Hall High School and then in 1998 coaching Conard High School. In the past ten years he has coached learn to play all the way up to bantams. This past year he led his U12 West Hartford girls team to win a CGHL Division 1 Championship and represented Connecticut at the CHC T2 Regionals in Orono, Maine. He holds a CIAC and USA Hockey Level 4.
U14 Silver: Kelly Keane
Kelly is a USA Hockey Level 4 Certified Coach with a strong passion for the game who has been the Head Coach for the Lights U-16 team the past two seasons. She has been coaching for the past 6 years for various age groups throughout New York and New England, leading teams to both State titles and Regional tournaments and helping players continue their education and playing careers at area prep schools. She has worked numerous camps over the years from Can-Am in Lake Placid to the Learn-to-Play programs in Enfield and Elmsford as well as Jeff Serowik’s Pro Ambitions Battle Camp in Rye, NY.
Kelly played her youth and high school hockey in the Northern Ct/Western Mass region and was able to continue her career at the collegiate level at Manhattanville College playing for the Valiants from 2009-2013. She was a member of the 2011 ECAC East Championship winning team, was a three time ECAC East All-Academic Team member, and an Assistant Captain her senior season.
Kayla is entering her second year coaching the Lights, previously coaching the U16 team. Last summer she worked at the Pride Hockey Elite Camp in West Springfield, MA.
Kayla played her youth career in the Northern Connecticut/Western Mass region playing for the Springfield Jr Pics. She then continued her career by playing for Northfield Mount Hermon a prep school located in Northfield, Ma. From there she continued at Nichols College, in Dudley, Ma from 2010 to 2014, where she was named ECAC East All-Academic Team member her sophomore, junior, and senior year.
U16: Mike Carrera
Mike Carrera is a native of East Haven, Ct and currently resides in Southington Ct
He grew up playing his youth hockey with the East Haven Yellow jackets program. He then played varsity with the East Haven High School for four years and was named captain in his junior year. There he lead the Yellow jackets to two Southern Conference titles during his four years along with two State Championships.
After his playing career he followed his passion and began his USA hockey training to become a coach and currently holds his USA level 4 card. After many years with the learn to play and learn to skate development programs with the Yellow jackets he moved on to become a coach with the Central Ct Capital Program for seven years. With many tournament victories and a State tier II Championship in 2011 he closed out his run with the Capitals.
Moving to the Northern Lights in 2012 he has coached several teams from u14 Silver to the current u19 tier II regional champions and runner up at the US Nationals in 2016.
Mike also has developed a co-op girls program with the help of others that is currently competing in the C.I.A.C. High School girls ice hockey division. The Nighthawks which is made up of players from the Avon, Farmington and Southington area hope to become a varsity program in 2017-18. He has been the coach of this team for the last four years as well.
Coach Carrera’s coaching philosophy is one of discipline, teamwork, skill development, life skills and most importantly creating a fun environment to accomplish these goals. He is committed to excellence as a coach, and strives to get the best out of every single player every single shift.
U16/U19 High School: Nicole Cournoyer
Nicole has been actively coaching hockey for the past 5 seasons. She is USA hockey Level 3 certified as well as having her CT Coaching Certification. This year she assisted with the NLGH U14 team. Last year she was the head coach of the NLGH Tier I U12 team and prior to that she assisted with that team for 3 seasons. She is also the Simsbury High School Girls ice hockey varsity assistant coach. Prior to working with the varsity program she was involved as the JV head coach for the 2015-2016 season and as the assistant JV coach for 3 seasons prior. Nicole has also helped with both adult and youth clinics at West Hartford’s Veterans rink.
As an adult, Nicole became involved with some competitive women’s ice hockey teams in the area. She participated in several tournaments. Currently, she still enjoys playing pick up hockey in men’s pickup games or with the Simsbury Ducks women’s team.
Other than hockey, Nicole has been involved with Simsbury High School sports programs. She has been a part of the coaching staff there with the varsity softball team and currently as the assistant girls golf coach. Away from the bench she spends her free time on the golf course, cycling or running. She is continually training for her next race and has completed 2 marathons, several half marathons and a century cycling ride.
U19: Dan Giordano ( Director, Player Development )
After playing for 15 years at the Tier 1 level, Dan has coached and developed players at all levels from Mites through Juniors over the last 19 years.
Dan was the co-founder and General Manager of the Connecticut Lazers AAA Tier 1 hockey program from 2001 through 2007 which offered teams from the Squirt Major level up through Juniors in the Empire Junior Hockey League, Metropolitan Boston Hockey League, and New England Elite Hockey League.
