U13 Silver Islanders Holiday Tournament

The Northern Lights U13 Silver team swept the competition at the Islanders Holiday Tournament to cap off 2017.

The Lights went 4-0 in their division with a cumulative score of 10-4 over the course of the tourney.

Thora Clark got the team's first goal of the tournament early in the 3rd period to break a scoreless tie. Seven different girls scored with Annie Woods leading the way with 3 goals. They got stellar goal tending from Kaitlyn O'Brien that kept a lid on the net throughout the weekend. The U13 team is rounding into form and is starting to gel with their improved passing and stingy defense.  A good portion of the team were part of the U12 Silver team that won the same tournament in 2016.

U12 Silvers win Adirondack Winter Classic!

Up at Lake George for The Adirondack Winter Classic Tournament, the CT Northern Lights as a team had great success.  In the opening game, they beat the  BAHA Bobcats from Vermont 6-2.  The same day, they lost a close one to the Minutemen Lady Flames from Massachusetts 2-1.  On day two, they dominated over the St Albans Saints from Vermont with an 8-0 victory which propelled them into the Championship game later that day on Monday.  In an extremely tight and chippy game, the Lights prevailed with a 3-2 victory over the Lady Flames avenging their only loss in the tournament.  Natalie BeVier scored the tournament winning goal and Abbi Giampaola made an amazing pad save with 10 seconds left to preserve the win.  Great and total team effort.

It should also be noted that Abbi Giampaola, Natalie BeVier, Kaitlyn Cunningham, and Ginny Zapletal all received sportsmanship awards in each game demonstrating what the Northern Lights are all about.

Finally, U12 Silver has a great showing in the Skills Competition at this tournament.  Adrienne Hall and the duo of Catherine Bushey/Brianna Morden medaled in 1st for stick handling and fastest skaters respectively.  Abbi Giampaola stopped all 3 breakaway shots she faced to take the medal for top goaltender.  Abby and Brooke Eselunas got 2nd place medal for passing/shooting.

All in all, a great representation for the U12 Silver over the MLK Jr holiday weekend.  Go Lights!

The Connecticut Northern Lights girls program is proud to announce that Ana Tittmann has committed to Manhattanville College for next season. Ana is a forward from Salisbury, Connecticut, and currently plays for our u19 team. The Manhattanville College Valients are a NCAA division 3 women's hockey team that compete in the UCHC. Manhattanville currently has a 4-3-1 record coming off a very strong season last year where they finished with a 17-9-2 record. Their season ended with a loss to Norwich in the league championship game and Norwich went on to play in the Women's NCAA division 3 final four.
Ana is one of our most skilled players. Her combination of skill and speed along with a very accurate shot has made her one of the top scorers on our u19 team. Since the day Ana joined the Northern Lights program she has always been committed to improving her game. Ana attended almost every summer skills session and was always looking for extra ice and extra opportunities to skate. Along with her commitment on the ice, Ana is always thinking about hockey in her free time. Ana really is a hockey junky. At home her father Mike is constantly summoned to help pass her pucks in the basement to improve her shooting. Ana has worked very hard to improve her skills away from the rink and is putting in an effort to improve her strength in the weight room. Ana's hard work will pay off in helping her become a very successful college hockey player.
Coach Dan Giordano said, "Ana has been a pleasure to coach and get to know. Ana really loves hockey and has shown that passion for the game every time she steps on the ice. Ana has very good offensive skill, a great work ethic, and a sense of determination in everything she does. These skills will help lead Ana to a very successfully college hockey career. I want to congratulate Ana and her family and wish her the best of luck at Manhattanville next season."
Ana would like to thank her Family, teammates, and coaches for helping her attain her goal of playing college hockey. Coach Giordano played a very important role helping to expose Ana to college hockey coaches starting with the Beantown Showcase this past summer. Ana eventually narrowed her choice down to 3 schools before eventually choosing Manhattanville. The Northern Lights program could not be more happy for Ana!

Lights Forward Maddie Paydos, commits to Utica College

The Connecticut Northern Lights girls hockey program is proud to announce that U19 forward Maddie Paydos, from Simsbury, CT, has officially committed to Utica College for next season. Maddie has been with the Northern Lights since mini lights at the age of 5 and continued through at every level. Maddie is very eager for her chance to join the Utica College Pioneers women's program next year.
On every Northern Lights team Maddie has been on, she has always been one of the hardest workers. She is a great team player who prides herself in being a solid two way forward. Maddie is just as concerned with denying a goal against as she is trying to score a goal herself.
Utica competes in NCAA Division 3  women's hockey in the UCHC and is currently off to a 7-4 start having just beat the number ten ranked team in the country Hamilton College. Utica finished last season with a 17-9-1 record and Maddie is looking forward to joining Utica's strong hockey tradition.
Maddie caught the eye of several college coaches playing for the Northern Lights at Beantown and they continued to watch Maddie at the Burlington Vermont Jamboree in late September. After watching Maddie several times, Utica invited Maddie up for an overnight visit and this helped Maddie determine that she was the right fit for Utica. Maddie's hard work really helped her get to this position and the Northern Light's Staff could not be more happy for her.
Coach Dan Giordano said about Maddie, "She has the ability to contribute offensively, but her defensive ability as a forward is what truly separates Maddie from most. She is a tremendous two way player and her determination and work ethic make Maddie a special player to coach. I Feel very lucky to have coached Maddie through the years and am proud of all the work she has done to achieve her goals."
Maddie would like to thank her parents, teammates, and Northern Light Coaches, especially coach Giordano for his support and guidance over the years. Maddie said, "Without the Northern Lights Program I would not have been able to achieve my goal of playing NCAA division 3 hockey."
